George of Syros

I am always keen to try out different ways of exploring, but a quad bike remains one of my favourite because of the freedom you have while driving it.  You get to experience the same place in a completely different way, in a totally new perspective.

Both in Mykonos and then in Syros, we chose to discover the island on quads, like we had done just before Covid during a trip in an Egyptian desert.  Except that in Egypt, we had only met people and animals after driving for 3 hours, once we reached a bedouin camp.  In Mikonos and Syros, quad biking is about slaloming between people, cars and numerous cats, on very windy roads.

In Syros, we used the company "George bikes" on routes that were very sporty and remain for adventurous souls because they are so very narrow, windy and full.  But being on the quad is also a cultural experience because the barrier between you and others which is instantaneously there when you are travelling in a car or, worst, in a big tourist coach, totally disappears.  People somehow find you more approchable.  I had a big conversation with a passer-by when I was at a stop, waiting for the lights to become green!

It also gives you a totally new perspective of the landscape, as you are able to go to spots a car doesn’t reach.  For example, on our quad days, we got to stop at stunning little creeks which we had not seen before, even if we had driven by car or bus very close to them.  And we got to go for numerous swims in amazingly blue creeks, where there was only us.

So do yourself a favour and go meet George.
